Ingredients

For the brownie layer:

1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the cookie layer:

1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup (175g) chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium saucepan, melt the 1/2 cup of butter over low heat.

        - Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.

          - Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until just combined (do not overmix).

            - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

              Prepare the Cookie Layer:

                - In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

                  - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.

                    - In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

                      - Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

                        Combine Layers:

                          - Drop spoonfuls of the cookie batter over the brownie layer in the pan. Use a spatula to gently spread the cookie dough to cover the brownie layer, but it’s okay if some brownie peeks through.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Serve: Allow the browkies to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing into squares. Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy your fudgy, chewy treat!
