The concept of smoothie bowls has surged in popularity in recent years, becoming a staple in trendy cafes and health-focused eateries. But where did the idea originate? Smoothie bowls have roots in the traditional smoothie but take it a step further by offering a thicker consistency that allows for creative toppings. Unlike standard smoothies, which are typically sipped through a straw, smoothie bowls are made to be enjoyed with a spoon, encouraging a more interactive eating experience.

Ingredients

2 cups watermelon, diced and chilled

1 cup strawberries, hulled and sliced

1 banana, sliced

1 cup coconut water (or almond milk for a creamier texture)

1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup (adjust based on sweetness preference)

1 tablespoon chia seeds

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Toppings:

Fresh sliced strawberries

Diced watermelon

Granola

Toasted coconut flakes

Mint leaves

Instructions

In a blender, combine the diced watermelon, sliced strawberries, banana, coconut water, honey, chia seeds, and vanilla extract.

Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed. If the mixture is too thick, you can add a little more coconut water to reach desired consistency.

Once blended, taste and adjust sweetness if needed by adding more honey/agave syrup.

Pour the smoothie into a bowl.

Arrange your chosen toppings on top of the smoothie bowl, such as fresh sliced strawberries, diced watermelon, granola, toasted coconut flakes, and a few mint leaves for garnish.

Serve immediately and enjoy with a spoon!
