Ingredients

1 pound ground beef or ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

Salt and pepper, to taste

1/2 cup spicy barbecue sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C), and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the Meatball Mix: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef (or turkey), breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, oregano, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined—do not overmix as this can make the meatballs tough.

Form the Meatballs: Wet your hands with a little water to prevent sticking, then roll the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake the Meatballs: Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. An internal temperature should reach 165°F (75°C).

Prepare the Firecracker Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, whisk together the spicy barbecue sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and soy sauce in a small bowl until well combined.

Toss and Glaze: Once the meatballs are done, remove them from the oven and transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the firecracker sauce over the meatballs and gently toss them until they are well coated.

Serve: Transfer the coated meatballs to a serving platter and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve hot with extra sauce on the side, if desired.
